Out With The Old, In With The New! ~ Factory Cooling

Combination of Nova Frigo Chiller & Thermoconvector. Much more efficient! Removal of Old Chiller

The processor had been operating his whole factory cooling services using a single, central air cooled water chiller and a singular insulated pipe work system (flow and return).

Its cooling capacity was approximately 200 kw/hr and supplying both Oil and Tool cooling water at 15C. The installed electrical power of the chiller was 66.2 kw including compressors, fans and pumps with an annual running costs of £20,659 based on 75% utilisation - 6120 production hours per year.

Nova Frigo recommendation was to install a Thermoconvector for Oil cooling, plus a smaller air cooled water chiller for mould cooling. This required a secondary pipe work system to be installed. Both cooling plants are of Nova Frigo's Modular concept allowing simple expansion by the connection of additional modules if or when required.

The installed installation comprised the following;
1 x Pipe work system for Oil circuit (non-insulated)
1 x RS45 Chiller with all accessories & options offering a cooling capacity of 48.8kw/hr with chilled water at 15C
1 x TS60 Thermoconvector offering a cooling capacity of 140kw/hr with water at ambient +9C (plus pre cooling)
Total investment cost £ 37,945.00 + VAT

New system running costs based on the same operating conditions as previous with single water chiller:
Total installed electrical power was 15.3kw. (RS45 Chiller 11.6kw + TS60 Thermoconvector 3.7kw) giving an annual running cost of £ 4,775 again based on 75% cooling plant utilisation!

Summary:
For a total investment of £37,945, an annual running cost saving of £15,884 was achieved representing a payback of 2.38 years, based on current electricity costs of £0.07034 per kilowatt hour!
