US-based Pelletron Corporation has appointed Cheshire-based K-Tech Plastics as sole distributor for its range of pneumatic conveying and dust removal products in the UK and Ireland.
Pelletron’s range includes the DeDuster device for removing dust and ‘angel hair’ from granular materials, Pellbow wear-resistant bends, rotary valves and a range of positive-pressure conveying components.
Karl Shields, sales director of K-Tech said “Having installed several Pelletron DeDuster systems, we found that the results were exceptional. When granules exit the DeDuster, they look as if they have been washed! We then approached Pelletron and negotiated to distribute these units in the UK.”
An electromagnetic field generated by a flux field coil at the inlet of the DeDuster weakens the static bond between the electrostatically charged plastic pellets and the small dust particles. The granules pass over a series of air wash decks, where a countercurrent flow of air removes the unwanted dust and streamers. Dust particles as small as 1 micron are removed efficiently, says K-Tech.
Removing streamers is important, since they may block the throat of the moulding machine, causing stoppages and consequent loss of production. Dust can cause many process problems such as black spots, gel formation in films, build-up on the feed screw, and clogged mould vents. Removing dust from reground material often allows a greater proportion to be used than if the material were left dusty. Using dust-free material offers the added benefit of a cleaner working environment around the machine.
